Now, if I could say that like how the host of Survivor say “The tribe has spoken”, that dramatize things even further.

Trivia aside, it is official. The BN has been denied the 2/3 majority. Not 1, 2, 3 nor 4, but FIVE states have fallen into the hands of the opposition parties, namely Penang, Selangor, Perak, Kelantan, and Kedah. Big names have unexpectedly lost, including Koh Tsu Koon, Samy Vellu, and Shahrizhat. (which brought me so much excitement!)

I barely slept last night, but as I woke up after my short nap to the dawn, I realized that it is not a typical dawn. It is a dawn of a new era for our country. Malaysia will never be the same again.

By now, BN, presumably now in torrents of confusion and stupefaction, should have realized the following, if they haven’t already.

1. In democracy, people rule.

2. Controlling mainstream media is not going to work. Because no one reads it. I, for instance, don’t.

3. Advertising does not always work. Fancy advertising + Bad name + Lack of credibility = Failed advertising + Money Wastage

4. Technologies are powerful tools that are increasingly playing a huge role in democracy.

5 . Ignorance is not bliss. Get your facts checked. To say Anwar is “irrelevant” is not true. To say BN has fulfill promises is not true. It will be interesting to compare the newspaper of today and yesterday. It makes a mockery of your own words, especially if you turn out to be wrong.

6. What’s really “irrelevant” is the racial issue. People get sick of the categorization. Today people demand something more universal - human rights, justice, transparency, accountability, quality of life, efficiency.

7. Don’t be over-confident. And don’t make scornful remarks. To prepare a nice stage at PWTC in preparation to celebrate is over-confident. To ridicule an opposition candidate who eventually won, screams over-confident. It makes you look bad, especially if you lose big.

8. Globalization is affecting everyone. You never know if the people are affected by Barack Obama’s rhetoric of hope, that change is possible, or if people are increasingly upset that their beloved country is not making progress when compared to other countries of similar stage of development.

At this point, I believe it is time for the opposition parties who controlled the states to prove their worth, and to dispel all the notions of don’t-vote-Opposition-because-they-have-no-experience or something to that effect, by the BN, the ruling force that we no longer are fearful of.

And to all politicians, remember, your “Survivor” is ultimately decided by the people.
