A Gratitude A Day

I am Grateful today…

6 May - for being convinced that systems, by definition, throttle innovation

5 May - for realizing the power of “meta-thinking”

4 May - for being convinced that everyone has the inherent drawing ability

3 May - for realizing that efficiency kills creativity

2 May - for feeling so inferior after looking at some designs done by others. It is a reminder to work harder.

1 May - because I managed to design my first CAD house

30 April - for understanding the power of “guan-xi” (building trusting relationship) in any endeavor

29 April - for knowing that I do not have brain tumor with which I thought I had diagnosed

28 April - because I had found a great method to increase my productivity after trying so many failed ones.

27 April - for the opportunity to be in a serious quicksand today, which in turn will make me wiser by end of the day.

About

Name: Aaron Lo Chee Seng

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Schools: SMK Taman Bukit Maluri (Class of 2006), Sunway University College (Class of December 2007)

About me: I have a problem writing succinctly. I get paid to play the piano although I am nowhere near Bill Evans. I play the violin but occasionally slides to the wrong note while doing the glissando. I love the intensity of the Puccini operas, especially O Mio Babbino Caro and Madama Butterfly but can never sing one. I enjoy Liszt, Chopin, Wagner and John Williams but have yet to master their craft to be in the same league. I craved to play the saxophone and cello, but I don’t at the moment. I think broadway jazz and jazz trio are the greatest invention of all time, with the rock genre and partisan politics being the worst. I write “emotionally-driven” songs and orchestra pieces but have yet to decide what to do with them. I am a K.I.S.S. minimalist but occasionally favor complexities. I redesign products that I find ugly but have yet to materialize them. I draw buildings that I have no idea how to build. I am into deconstructivism, modernism, post-modernism and high tech designs, and I adore Daniel Liebeskind, Norman Foster, Frank Gehry and Richard Rogers, but will never go to my dream architecture school – The Cooper Union, being a non-American. I will someday - but have yet to - understand the philosophy of man vs machine and the concept of mind, body and soul. Learning and understanding how electronics and machines work turns me on but the process of constructing them turns me off. Oh, did I mention that I have a serious problem writing succinctly?
